In 1984 the Swan Italian Club, headed by John Steffanelli, approached Frank Arvino and Tony Scali to bring semi professional football to the Swan Valley. Frank and Tony were shown the Swan Italian Club premises and although there was no football pitch at time the potential was there as the Swan Italian Club owned its own premises freehold.

A dedicated committee was then formed in late 1984 and the initial name given to the club was Swan IC United Soccer Club. The club played its first season at Jack Mann Oval in the amateur ranks coached by Andy Clues and finished the season in third place. In 1986 the team was accepted into the fourth division of the federation. In 1987 the club moved from Jack Mann to the Swan Italian Club for its first season at the club.

The club established itself as one of the elite Premier League clubs in Western Australia and won their first major trophy in 2003, under the stewardship of former Perth Glory coach and Football Hall of Fame (Western Australia) member Gary Marocchi, winning the Boral Cup with a 2 -1 victory against Perth SC, and winning it again in 2004 with a 3 -1 victory against Fremantle City.

The under 18’s continued the clubs cup success winning the Under 18’s Midland Brick Cup beating Sorrento 1-0 in the final.

In 2008 the club merged with Swan Districts Junior Soccer Association and rebranded itself as Swan United Football Club (SUFC) to represent the unity of the Swan Valley's two largest football clubs and extended the clubs capability to offer football to participants of all ages groups (Juniors & Seniors) and ability levels.

With the help of a strong committee made up of volunteers and the thriving Midland and Swan Valley region the club is in a strong position going forward.
